Every summer, families with school-aged children face an additional burden: thousands of children who depend on free or reduced-price school meals will be home without access to this vital source of nutrition during the summer break.
In response, Good Samaritan Ministries is continuing to do the work of Jesus Christ by combating poverty and changing lives in Northeast Tennessee through our annual Summer Food Program. This initiative will provide essential food support to more than 550 families with children throughout the summer months. But we cannot do it alone — we need the support of caring individuals like you.
The Back 2 School Campaign is geared towards serving children and teens in poverty from Northeast TN with backpacks, school supplies, Bibles, and a community event for the upcoming school year. For over 40 years, we have worked alongside businesses, churches, organizations, and individuals to take lead on this program and in return we’ve seen overall great community success.
In 2025, it is our goal to provide a backpack loaded with school supplies for 2,000 children and teens in need at our annual community Back 2 School Bash event with inflatables, games, live music, food, and more open to the community on Sunday, August 3 at Freedom Hall. With grandparent led household populations increasing and various service cuts in our community, we must move forward in providing this much needed program. There is no substitute for education. Our children need us more now than ever before.
