Food Pantry

Needed: Food Pantry Volunteers & Food Delivery Partners

Our food pantry provides emergency food assistance for families, individuals, and elderly.

We see an increasing need for food every day. Last year, we made over 7,200 food boxes for those in need. This means that many families and individuals are struggling to put meet their most basic needs.

The Melting Pot

Needed: Food Server Volunteers

The Melting Pot serves food to hungry people everyday using food donations from a variety of generous sources. Many churches in the community come together to prepare and serve meals. In 2018, the Melting Pot served 115,326 meals. Hospitality meals at breakfast and lunch are open to the public.

Volunteer groups and individuals to serve meals are always welcomed.

Thrift Store

Needed: Retail Associate Volunteers, Donation Inventory Volunteers,

Pick Up & Delivery Volunteers

Some people say it’s the best thrift store in town, and we agree! 
All proceeds from our thrift store help preserve Good Samaritan Ministries and support its mission to help the less fortunate in the community.

Programs Department

Needed: Special Programs Volunteers, Event Planning Volunteers

Good Samaritan Ministries programs department continues to serve and develop programs that meet the needs in our community through a variety of events and promotions in various ways.

Free To Live

Needed: Spiritual Mentors, Transportation Volunteers, Financial Skills Counselors

We want to interrupt the cycle by breaking the stigma surrounding returning citizens.

Free to Live is a 12-month program. Upon graduation, men will be connected to opportunities for employment. These opportunities are essential to help combat cyclical poverty and change lives in our community.

Intake Department

Social Work

Needed: Documentation & filing assistant, Social Services Resource Provider

Good Samaritan Ministries in Johnson City is one of many host locations of the legal advice clinics provided by Legal Aide of East Tennessee.

​Volunteers who staff Advice Clinics meet with clients who have routine legal questions. If the client’s legal problem cannot be resolved at the Clinic, the volunteer has no further obligation to the client. Legal Aide of East Tennessee may be able to offer the client additional assistance later, depending on the nature of the legal issue.​
